Appointment: Temporary, full-time (1.0 FTE) position. This position is anticipated to last up to 18 months.

 

Work Location:

This position is based in Tacoma, WA, and is hybrid eligible (minimum of 3 days on-site) after a successful evaluation period.

Position Summary:

 

The Athletics Advancement Officer is responsible for planning, managing, and executing corporate fundraising activities in support of Logger Athletics. This role oversees corporate partnerships and targeted fundraising efforts in support of the university's athletics programs.

 

The position plays a central role in aligning athletics fundraising with broader institutional priorities. The role engages partners across campus, including colleagues within university relations and athletics staff and coaches, to grow financial resources from corporations and neighboring businesses that deepen engagement, and enhance the scholar-athlete experience. Success in this role is measured by growth in athletics philanthropic support through sponsorship acquisition and donor engagement and building a foundation for successful corporate and individual-donor fundraising in the athletics function for years to come.

 

This is a limited term position for up to 18 months, with potential for continuation dependent on funding and business need.

 

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

 

• Solicit, develop and execute an Athletics corporate sponsorship program

• Manage a portfolio of corporate prospects and select individual prospects with capacity and inclination to support Logger Athletics;

• Engage in personalized outreach to strengthen relationships with local and regional businesses;

• Oversee the production and updating of an inspiring suite of sponsorship menus, fundraising mechanisms, and other Athletics development-related materials that align with university standards and strategies;

• In partnership with the Director of Athletics, identify priority needs and compelling funding opportunities and effectively communicate the fundraising priorities for Athletics and the case for support to colleagues throughout University Relations;

• In partnership with colleagues in Division of Student Affairs and elsewhere, bring a strategic approach to the acquisition of sponsorships, outright gifts, and partnerships with and/or from corporations and neighboring businesses;

• In partnership with the Office of Donor Relations, recognize and steward donors and their gifts, ensuring donors feel valued and connected to the impact of their contributions;

• In partnership with the Office of Annual Giving, provide support for unrestricted fundraising efforts that benefit Athletics;

• In partnership with the Office of Alumni and Parent Relations, coordinate strategic engagement of athletics donors - corporate, business, and individuals - in a manner that aligns with the prioritized experience of Logger alumni;

• Maintain accurate and timely records for constituents in the constituent management system;

• Represent the University of Puget Sound in a consistently professional and ethical manner, including attending competitions and other athletics events as needed for the purpose of cultivating and stewarding prospective donors; and

• Perform other duties as needed.

Qualifications:

 

Candidates must be able to explain and/or demonstrate that they possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities to safely perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

 

The Athletics Advancement Officer should possess the following qualifications and skills:

 

• Experience in fundraising, preferably with a focus on higher education and/or athletics fundraising;

• Demonstrate familiarity with and commitment towards upholding ethical standards and NCAA legislation;

• The ability to work and communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with a broad range of internal and external constituents;

• The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of close-knit team;

• A high level of professionalism, ability to solve problems, handle confidential information, and navigate sensitive situations with discretion;

• Highly developed computer skills including experience with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite, and fundraising/donor management software;

• Willingness to travel and work outside of traditional hours;

• Excellent organizational and planning skills as well as superior attentiveness to detail;

• A bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience; and

• Ability to respectfully work, communicate and provide leadership within a diverse campus community.

The anticipated range for this position is $36.30 per hour up to $42.45 ($88,296 annualized) for an experienced employee in this role. Decisions about starting salaries are made based on the extent and relatedness of the candidate's education and experience and on internal equity and market considerations.

Depending on where it falls within the salary range, this position may be non-exempt or exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
